Betrayal of Old Photographs

All of the world I gave you,
The stars, the roses, a crystal moon,
Fire and water, dreams of far-away places,
A chance at laughter,
And most of all I gave you,
My soul, my love, my being.

But you walked with dirty little feet
Upon the fire putting it out,
Making mockery of my love,
Smothering the dreams, the flowering dreams,
The tenderness of those early years.

I did not stop in the struggle,
I fought the earth, the winds, the mountain thorns.
With blinded eyes, I tried to look
Beyond the obvious, beyond the hidden.
But you did not measure my stature, the power of those feelings,
Not even when I stood up straight,
You did not see me.
You were confused by the distance you placed between us,
You were swallowed by metallic sounds,
Plastic illusions of eternal joy,
Bright electric neon lights,
and night fell upon you.

You were so swallowed by the darkness,
Going everywhere and nowhere,
Betraying old memories, old photographs,
Sinking, sinking without defense,
Smothered by the quicksand of wasted life,
Drowned in ignorance - drowned in ignorance.

And wrecked in the abyss of desperation,
You detached to wrong symbols - false gods,
To lies and sounds
That had no meaning.

But the darkness is about to dissolve, and the new day is about to begin.
A crystalline order will again prevail,
As the light will appear once more in the distant horizon,
As it always has.

And then, .............
And only then, .............
Perhaps .............
And only, perhaps .............
At dawn .............
In a dream .............
In heaven .............
........................................
We shall meet and love each other again.
